254x304 - Hands Across The Sea Samplers presents this beautiful reversible English band sampler from 1680 that includes two versions - one forms a cross on the reverse with a vertical stitch on the left, while the other has a four sided stitch on the reverse - also includes an array of decorative stitches; an alphabet towards the top demonstrates the stitcher's ability to mark household linens which was a common practice in the 1600's; lovely Whitework bands as well as Cutwork, and needle lace are featured; the acorns has a symbolic meaning as Charles II hid in an oak tree when fleeing the Roundheads in 1651; and two versions of sunflowers were used possibly to represent Charles I with seeds and one for his wife Catherine of Breganza that has no seeds - coded for Silk or DMC
