Historical Fact: This rare century-old stained glass window is situated above the altar of Faith Chapel in the Jekyll Island National Landmark Historic District. Designed and made by David Maitland Armstrong and his daughter, Helen Armstrong, the window was installed in 1896. It measures 86 inches wide and 50 inches high, and incorporates an unusual layering technique. Armstrong used up to six layers of glass in parts of the window to achieve a striking effect of depth. The design depicts the adoration of the Christ Child by the magi, but it also foreshadows His crucifixion and resurrection. Behind the first wise man, a second is dressed in the uniform of a Roman soldier. A third pushes forward a crown of thorns.
